Essential Track Day Items and Checklist

There is nothing better to us here at Track Stamps than to spend a day at the track testing our drivers skills and cars performance. We also want our customers and fellow racers to enjoy this experience as well! The key to ensuring your track day is a success is with proper preparation.
Whether you're racing on a road course, autocross, drag strip, runway, hill climb or rally trail: here is our Essential Track Day Guide and link to our FREE CHECKLIST to help your track day run smoothly and safe.
Items necessary will be dependent on the motorsports event you’re participating in, so this checklist serves as a guide that you can adjust to your needs and preferences.
1. Car Preparation
Prior to showing up to the track, it is essential that your car is in proper form to endure the stresses that it will experience on the track. As such, you should do a thorough tech inspection of your race car (or have a qualified technician complete). These include but are not limited to:
- Fluid Check (Bring Extra to the Track)
- Brake Pad Check
- Tire Check
- Driver Number
- Insurance (Preferably Track Day Insurance)
You can also enhance your experience by bringing the following items:
- Data Logger - Track telemetry to improve consistency and times!
- Track Day Journal - Watch your adjustments improve your times (Coming Soon)!
- Video Recorder / Camera - Use it to study for future improvement opportunities, and relive the experience!
2. Safety Items
Track days are extremely fun, but they can also be dangerous. As such you should always utilize protective equipment when on track. Here are a few items to consider:
- Helmet / Balaclava / Hans Device
- Racing Shoes
- Racing Gloves
- Weather Related Gear (i.e. jacket, hats)
As you advance we also advise your car be equipped with safety items in the event of a track incident. These can include (but not limited to):
- Roll Bar / Cage
- Racing Seat and Harness
- Tow Hook
3. Maximize Your Experience
As your driving skills improve, you want to maximize the performance of your car. This can be achieved with slight changes to your car's setup. As such the following tools will help you make adjustments to reduce your track times.
- Tire Pressure Gauge
- Portable Air Compressor
- Pyrometer
- Dedicated Track Tires
- Tire Warmers
Remember to log these in your Track Day Journal so you can use to determine the best setup for your driving style!
4. Tools
We would advise that you bring tools with you to prevent any incidents from derailing the amount of time you spend on the track. Although this list can grow to be extensive the most crucial tools we tend to use include:
- Socket Set (with lug nut tools)
- Screwdriver Set
- Wrench/ Plier Set
- Working Gloves
- Flashlight
- Cordless Impact Wrench or Torque Wrench
- Jack and Jack Stands
- Zip Ties and Tape
- Jumper Cables or Battery Starter
5. Self Care Items
As Track Days are outside and tend to be day log events, it is important to stay hydrated, nourished, protected from the elements and comfortable. Here are the items we bring to the track to ensure this:
- Sunscreen
- First Aid Kit
- Water/ Ice/ Snacks (Potentially Lunch)
- Cell Phone Charger
- Lawn Chair(s)
- Tent
- Portal Fan / Cooler
- Mini Generator
6. Post Race Bragging
